Spiritual Direction
The Eighteenth Century Jesuit spiritual director Jean-Pierre de Caussade wrote, "We must accept any way [the sacred] chooses to communicate with us and respect any way it pleases [God] to unite . . . to others." Or, as the Unitarian Dávid Ferenc (Francis Dávid) said, "there have always been many opinions about faith . . . for faith is a gift of God."
Erik is available as a companion on your spiritual journey. He sees people in his office in Brewster, Massachusetts; does direction with people over the phone at long-distance; and has even been experimenting with "cyber direction" using e-mail, building on the ancient tradition of spiritual epistles. Meetings generally last 50 minutes and typically take place monthly. (Although in the beginning of a direction relationship we might decide to meet more frequently.) Fees are on a sliding scale from $50-$75 per session, although arrangements can be made if finances are a problem.
Creative Celebrations
Are you looking for a marriage ceremony that reflects your understandings of your relationship? Perhaps you are not part of an organized religion, or maybe your relationship crosses the boundaries of two very different traditions. Or maybe you're one of the people who would describe themselves as "spiritual but not religious." As a Unitarian Universalist clergy Erik works with people like you all the time. His goal is always to craft with a couple a service that not only expresses their love but is, in itself, and expression of their love. Maybe he can work with you.
Would like to Name or Dedicate your child in sacred ceremony without having to deal with dogma with which you don't relate? Or maybe you've lost a child through miscarriage or pregnancy loss and would like a ceremony to mark this passing. Perhaps you'd like the Dissolution of your union to have the same intentionality it had when you joined yourselves together. Maybe you've been through a rough time and would like to create a ceremony to celebrate your own Springtime/Easter, or possible there's a part of your life for which you feel the need to hold a funeral.
House Blessings, Home Cleansings, Preparation for the (job) Hunt . . . in times past all of these kinds of events, and many more besides, were marked in sacred ceremony.
Real-Time Chat
A new experiment is offering an online chat room for our conversations. In the future Erik may establish "office hours." For now, send him an e-mail and arrange a time to meet online.
